Buckland Mills Elementary School PTO Meeting

Tuesday, December 10, 2019

 CALL TO ORDER, INTRODUCTIONS

  1. PTO President, Cat Hart, called the meeting to order at 7:16pm.

  2. REVIEW OF OCTOBER/NOVEMBER ACTIVITIES
    1. Spirit Nights
      1. Kindergarten – October 16, 2019 – Eugene’s Sausage
      2. First Grade – November 11, 2019 – Foster’s Grill
    2. Custodian Appreciation Day – the PTO gifted out custodial staff in appreciation for all they do to keep our school clean flowers, a Walmart gift card, and Mission BBQ.
    3. Boosterthon Recap – Lori Simber, chair of the Boosterthon, provided a final recap of this year’s Boosterthon fundraiser. The PTO was able to give the school $20K to put towards playground improvements. The PTO kept 5K which was used to pay expenses and place the deposit for next year’s Boosterthon. Because the school met their fundraising goal Principal Stroud ate two bugs at a school assembly, all students were provided extra recess and all teachers had lunch provided.
    4. Spirit Wear Friday
      1. October 25, 2019
      2. November 15, 2019
    5. Fall Friendship Grams – The PTO processed over 300 Friendship Gram orders. Each teacher had them delivered in a black bag on the day they were delivered, and they were sent home in each child’s folder.
    6. Teacher Give Backs –
  1. October – The PTO provided snacks for teachers/staff at the parent teacher conference day
  2. November – The PTO hosted a “Pie Buffet” for the teachers and staff the day before Thanksgiving break. All pies and cookies were donated by local bakeries including Wegmans, Harris Teeter, Inspired Cravings, Simply Desserts & A la Mode.

     

  3. UPDATE ON ROOM PARENTS

    1. Debbie De Michelle provided an update on her attempt at setting up and communicating room parents for this school year. She shared with the group that due to the roll out of the Hub, she no longer has access to email addresses of parents and is finding it very hard to try to get school wide announcements out regarding teacher’s needs for parent volunteers and to solicit parent interest. Teachers present at the meeting suggested writing a blurb and sending it to all teachers to send out to their class rosters via email to assist in getting the word out.

       

    2. Principal Appreciation Week – Will be hosted the week of January 13th. Amy Graham-Sutton and Christy Dailey will be chairing PAW.
    3. Upcoming Spirit Wear Fridays
      1. December 13, 2019
      2. January 24, 2019
    4. Spring Morning Extracurricular Classes – Registration forms will be sent out after the New Year
      1. Vet Camp – 3/18 – 5/13
      2. Cooking Class – 3/10 – 5/19 – Will have a Tuesday or Thursday option
  4. NEW BUSINESS

     

    1. BMES Character Breakfast – Ashley Tedder, Chair of the Character Breakfast, provided a recap of the event which was hosted on December 7, 2019 from 9am – 12pm. In total 205 people attended. This year the event was catered by IHOP and included face painting, a photo booth, Santa, a holiday shoppe and a vendor fair. We grossed $2030 in attendance revenue but had total expenses of $3400. In total the PTO donated in givebacks just under $1400.
    2. Teacher Preference Sheets – Teacher preference sheets has been collected and compiled into a binder that can be found in the front office. Christine Gutermuth shared with the group that individuals who don’t have an opportunity to come by the school can send her a request and she will email the requested teacher preference sheet to the individual via email.
    3. Upcoming Spirit Nights
      1. 2nd Grade – January 15, 2019 – Chipotle
      2. 3rd Grade – February – date and location TBD
        1. Tennis – Grades K-2 – 4/21 – 5/26/Grades 3-5 – 4/24 – 5/29
        1. Volunteers Needed – The PTO is still looking for volunteers to assist with:
          1. Teacher give backs – Jan/Feb
          2. Valentine Family Dance – Will be cancelled without volunteers
          3. Valentines Friendship Grams

             

        1. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
          1. Principal Stroud shared that the staff send their first set of report cards out through the HUB. She praised on BMES teachers on being excellent!
          2. Principal Stroud thanked the PTO for the Thanksgiving Pie Bar. She mentioned that it was a first and that the teachers and staff appreciated it.

             

        2. NEXT MEETING & ADJOURNMENT
          1. The next meeting of the Buckland Mills Elementary School PTO will be on Tuesday, January 14, 2019 at 7pm.
          2. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40pm

       recycle ink
We are recycling empty ink cartridges (small, non-remanufactured) . This is a fundraiser for the school. Empty ink can be left in the computer lab or Ms. Levitt's mailbox.
