I forgot to send home homework on Friday! It will come home on Monday afternoon.
The second grade teachers decided as a team to not send home the word study sorts before introducing them. Your child will not get the word study lists on Fridays any longer. Your child will get their new word study sheets on Monday this week and will have word study class Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week and then Tuesday, Thursday next week with the test being on Thursday.
We are still concentrating on writing and this week your child's first practice All about book will be coming home and their graded all about book will be going into their Roar to Success binders along with their unit 3 and 4 math tests as well as their pretests. I thought that sending home the pretests was a good idea, but it's just easier for me to put them in the binders. Binders will come home on Friday this week for you to see your child's progress. Please review the binders with your child and send them back on Monday. As this is a way to collect ALL of your child's work, please make sure to send it back in it's entirety!
Grades 3,4, and 5 had a recent assembly about goal setting and behavior. I feel that the topics they spoke about apply to second grade as well..."being quality students, and always putting forth their best effort at school. Please continue to reinforce these concepts at home, and make sure that your child knows what your expectations are for them at school, especially as the weather starts getting nicer, and it starts to become more difficult to focus in class."
This week I have a personal day off on Wednesday afternoon. Our normal activities continue even if I am not here. I spend many hours developing lessons for a substitute and expect your child to behave and complete the work when I am not present. I am also taking off all day Friday as I have a dr's appointment. I try to schedule all of my appointments and personal time together but it didn't work out that way this week.
I am sure your child came home and told you about our awesome science demonstration from Mr.Ken Hicks (PWCS). He made alka seltzer rockets, elephant toothpaste, learned about the three states of matter as well as a fourth...PLASMA. and saw a tornado in a box. We had a blast and will be expanding on the introductions of matter that he showed us.
